How requests work
We assign one partner per service in each area. None is assigned for this service in Los Angeles yet, so a request comes to our team and we contact you about next steps. It is never resold.
You can also browse other listed qualifying companies. Directory listings do not grant a partner slot or change where a TrustedLocals request is routed.
Partners pay for an exclusive TrustedLocals request-routing slot for their service and area. Payment does not change source ratings.
What proper mold remediation looks like
Mold grows where materials stay damp, so every remediation job has two halves: removing the mold and fixing the moisture that fed it. A job that cleans the wall but leaves the leak, the condensation or the poor ventilation in place does not hold.

Small patches, under about ten square feet on a hard surface, can usually be cleaned by a homeowner with detergent and water once the moisture is fixed. Wear gloves, goggles and an N95 respirator, and skip the bleach: it does not reach growth inside porous material. Drywall, ceiling tile or insulation with growth comes out, however small the patch. Call a company when the mold came from sewage or flooding, covers more than about ten square feet, is inside walls or ducts, or when anyone in the home has asthma or a weakened immune system. If the ducts may be contaminated, do not run the system.
You rarely need a lab test to decide whether to act. California's Department of Public Health says visible mold or persistent dampness indoors is a health concern and should be corrected, whatever kind of mold it is. The state has no official exposure limits for mold, so a test result does not change the answer.
The industry standard, IICRC S520, sets out how the work is done. The affected area is sealed off with plastic sheeting, and a fan pulls air out of it so spores do not drift into the rest of the home. Workers wear respirators and protective clothing. Porous materials with growth, such as drywall, insulation and carpet, are removed and bagged inside the sealed area. Hard surfaces are cleaned with HEPA vacuums and damp wiping. Spraying a mold-killing product and leaving it is not remediation. Air scrubbers with HEPA filters run throughout. The area is dried and the moisture source is repaired. Only then does the sheeting come down.
In a home built before about 1980, drywall compound, plaster, textured ceilings and floor tiles can contain asbestos. The South Coast air district requires an asbestos survey before most renovation work, and asbestos removal is a separately certified trade, so those materials are tested before anyone disturbs them.
Insist on a clearance check at the end. Before the area is rebuilt, someone should confirm the work is complete: a visual inspection at minimum, and often air or surface sampling compared with the rest of the home. Where you can, have it done by an inspector who does not work for the remediation company, or at least ask for a written clearance report you can keep.
California has no mold-specific contractor license. A company doing work worth $1,000 or more, or any work that needs a building permit, needs a state contractor license from the Contractors State License Board that covers the work. The record at cslb.ca.gov shows whether it is active, bonded and carries workers' compensation. Ask which IICRC certifications the technicians hold.

Common questions
What does mold remediation involve?
A remediation company finds the moisture source, sets up containment so spores do not spread to clean rooms, removes or cleans affected materials, filters the air, and checks the area before the containment comes down. The moisture source has to be fixed too, or the mold returns.
Should I clean visible mold myself before a company arrives?
Avoid disturbing it. Scrubbing or dry-brushing mold can release spores into the rest of the home. Keep the area closed off if you can, stop any active leak, and leave the affected material in place for the company to assess.
What should I include in my request?
Where you see or smell mold, roughly how large the area is, any recent leak or flooding, and a photo if you have one. That lets the company plan the first visit.
Do I need mold testing before remediation?
Testing is usually not needed before remediation. If you can see mold or smell it, the work is the same whatever the species: fix the moisture, remove the growth, clean and dry the area. Testing is useful for a clearance check afterwards and for cases where mold is suspected but cannot be found.
Will mold come back?
Mold comes back if the moisture does. Remediation is finished only when the leak, condensation or ventilation problem that fed the mold has been fixed and the area reads dry.
Can the same company test and remediate?
The same company can do both, but a clearance check carries more weight when it comes from someone who did not do the work. If one company does both, keep the written clearance report.
How does TrustedLocals choose a mold remediation partner for Los Angeles?
We list companies rated 4.5+ on Google and pick one partner per area. Google and Yelp ratings are shown separately from reviews of TrustedLocals jobs. Payment buys the routing slot, not a rating.
Where does my TrustedLocals request go?
It depends on your ZIP code. Where no partner is active for this service, a request comes to our team, and we contact you about next steps. Enter your ZIP code on the request form to see what applies to you. Your request is never put up for bids.
Can I browse other companies in a partner's area?
You can also browse other listed qualifying companies. Directory listings do not grant a partner slot or change where a TrustedLocals request is routed. Website and call links contact a business directly, outside TrustedLocals request routing.
Is there a fee to send a request?
No. Sending a request is free. You pay the company directly for the work, at the price they quote you.
What if something goes wrong?
Tell us. We can remove a company that falls short.
