Before you book a visit
- Describe the problem. Say what is happening and when it started.
- Confirm the visit. Confirm that the company serves your address and ask for its arrival window.
- Ask about charges. Ask about any call-out or after-hours charge, and what the first visit covers.
- Clarify follow-up work. Ask whether access openings, drying and finish repairs are included or need a separate quote.

How requests work
We assign one partner per service in each area. None is assigned for this service in Los Angeles yet, so a request comes to our team and we contact you about next steps. It is never resold.
You can also browse other listed qualifying companies. Directory listings do not grant a partner slot or change where a TrustedLocals request is routed.
Partners pay for an exclusive TrustedLocals request-routing slot for their service and area. Payment does not change source ratings.
What to do in a plumbing emergency
First, shut off the water. If you know which fixture is leaking, close its valve: sinks and toilets normally have one underneath or behind them, though tubs and showers often do not, and in older homes some are missing or seized. If you cannot find it, or water is coming through a ceiling or wall, close the main valve where the supply enters the home, often on the front wall or in the garage. The valve in the meter box at the street belongs to the water utility and may need a meter key.

If you smell gas anywhere, do not touch light switches, phones or anything electrical. Leave the home, then call the gas utility or 911 from outside. Do not turn the gas back on yourself; the utility or a licensed plumber does that after the leak is fixed.
Then limit the damage. If water is near outlets or coming through a light fixture, turn off power to that area at the breaker panel, but only if you can reach the panel without standing in water or touching anything wet; otherwise leave it and tell the crew. Move belongings out of the water and take photos. Water that has soaked into floors, walls or cabinets, or that came from a drain or sewer, needs a restoration company as well as a plumber. Sewage is Category 3 water under the industry standard, and porous materials it touched, such as drywall, carpet and pad, usually have to be removed.
Emergencies in Los Angeles homes include corroded supply pipes, failed flexible hoses under sinks and behind toilets, leaks in pipes under a concrete slab, sewer backups from tree roots or collapsed clay pipes, and failed water heaters. A camera inspection of the sewer line shows whether a backup is a one-off blockage or a broken pipe, and trenchless repair can often replace a line with far less digging, through access pits at each end instead of a trench across the yard.
Plumbers in California hold a C-36 license from the Contractors State License Board. The record at cslb.ca.gov shows whether it is active, bonded and carries workers' compensation. Water heater replacement and sewer line work need a permit from your city's building department; in the City of Los Angeles that is the Department of Building and Safety. The contractor normally gets the permit and arranges the inspection; ask to be sure.
Ask for the after-hours call-out terms before anyone is sent out; a good company states them up front. Get what they will do in writing before work starts. For anything beyond a simple fix, ask what the alternatives are, for example replacing a failing pipe instead of patching it again.

Common questions
What should I do while I wait for a plumber?
Close the fixture's shutoff valve or the home's main water valve, and turn off the water heater if the leak is near it. Move belongings away from the water and, if water is near outlets, turn off power to that area.
What counts as a plumbing emergency?
A burst or leaking supply line, a sewer backup, no water to the home, a leaking water heater, or a gas smell near a gas water heater. For a gas smell, leave the home and call the gas utility first.
What should I include in my request?
What is leaking or blocked, where it is, whether you could shut the water off, and a photo if you have one.
Where is my main water shutoff?
The main shutoff is usually where the supply enters the home: on the front wall of the house, in the garage, or near a front hose bib. The valve in the meter box at the street belongs to the water utility and may need a meter key. Find your house valve before an emergency and make sure it turns.
Do I need a plumber or a restoration company?
A plumber stops the leak and repairs the pipe. If water has soaked floors, walls or cabinets, or came from a drain or sewer, a restoration company dries and cleans the structure. A serious leak often needs both.
Does a water heater replacement need a permit in Los Angeles?
Yes. In the City of Los Angeles the Department of Building and Safety requires a plumbing permit, with one exception: a like-for-like swap by a contractor registered with the department as a Certified Licensed Contractor, who files a certificate of compliance instead. Long Beach and the other cities in the county issue permits through their own building departments. The licensed contractor normally handles it and arranges the inspection.
How does TrustedLocals choose a emergency plumbing partner for Los Angeles?
We list companies rated 4.5+ on Google and pick one partner per area. Google and Yelp ratings are shown separately from reviews of TrustedLocals jobs. Payment buys the routing slot, not a rating.
Where does my TrustedLocals request go?
It depends on your ZIP code. Where no partner is active for this service, a request comes to our team, and we contact you about next steps. Enter your ZIP code on the request form to see what applies to you. Your request is never put up for bids.
Can I browse other companies in a partner's area?
You can also browse other listed qualifying companies. Directory listings do not grant a partner slot or change where a TrustedLocals request is routed. Website and call links contact a business directly, outside TrustedLocals request routing.
Is there a fee to send a request?
No. Sending a request is free. You pay the company directly for the work, at the price they quote you.
